Vivo SA is a company of mobile telephony, fixed telephony services and broadband in Brazil. Initially formed by a merger of existing mobile phone companies in Brazil, previously was run by a joint venture of companies Telefonica and Portugal Telecom, but the former bought the latter throughout the company in the second half of 2010. 2009 data, Vivo SA had 45.6 million customers at home. The technology uses CDMA /EVDO, GSM /EDGE, TDMA and WCDMA / HSPA ( 3G ) in mobile phones. Since 2007 the network using AMPS networks simultaneously with TDMA and CDMA, but now is off to release the electromagnetic spectrum to deploy GSM network. It is the mobile operator largest by market share in Brazil. In the first quarter of 2012, made the unification of telephony services with the services offered in the state of São Paulo (formerly “Telefonica São Paulo”) under the “Live” and is currently the only brand of telephony Telefonica Group in Brazil.
Before unification, some companies used the technology CDMA , but in 2007, Vivid has adapted the technology GSM , which has already been implemented in all states of Brazil, and Mexico City, becoming the sole operator who works with technology CDMA , TDMA and GSM in Brazil.
The price of maintaining the technology CDMA is very expensive, so this technology is second in the preference by customers. Although this fact is also due to the growth of GSM in Brazil, which gradually, increasingly, is the technology used by most Brazilians. Some areas already covered CDMA2000 (1xRTT), which is two times faster than the technology GPRS GSM phone.
Live began in July 2005 the sale of mobile 3G , using technology CDMA 1 x EV-DO . This is the first implementation of technology 3G in Brazil. EVDO coverage is present in the following states of Brazil: Bahia ( Salvador , Camaçari and A ) in the Federal District ( Brasilia ), Espírito Santo ( Victória ), Paraná ( Curitiba , São José dos Pinhais and Araucaria ), Rio de Janeiro ( Rio de Janeiro , Niterói , Campos dos Goytacazes , Macae , Rio das Oysters and Armacao dos Búzios ), Rio Grande do Sul ( Porto Alegre ), Santa Catarina ( Florianópolis ), São Paulo ( São Paulo ,Campinas , São Bernardo do Campo , Osasco , São José dos Campos , Barueri , São Caetano do Sul , Campos Jordao , Sertãozinho , Ribeirão Preto and Franca ). The expansion of this coverage was interrupted with the network RTT x 1.
The adoption of the technology CDMA also caused difficulties in digital mobile customers CDMA Vivo in the region of Minas Gerais (technology CDMA coverage is available only in the region covered by CTBC Celular , ie, northeastern Brazil, except Bahia , Maranhão and Sergipe -). Another important problem is the high level of cloning technology live analog, AMPS and CDMA , which does not happen with GSM technology. However, the technology AMPS is being shut down, for determination of Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency), until it is fully disabled on all operators in the future. Is expected to live longer operate with CDMA in 2011. The remaining spectrum of AMPS , will be used as an extension of frequency in WCDMA / HSPA and used to expand the capacity of the 2.5G network technology GSM and CDMA .
