Barclays Logo – Barclays PLC is a global services company Financial based in London, which operates in Europe, U.S., Middle East, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa. It is a holding company that trades on the London Stock Exchange, the NYSE and the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It operates through its subsidiary Barclays Bank PLC.
Barclays PLC is ranked No. 18 among the world’s largest companies according to the magazine Forbes (2007) and the fourth in size among financial services providers worldwide, according to social capital ($ 32,500 million). It is the third largest among those operating in the capital market in the United Kingdom. The pricipal based bank is at One Churchill Place in Canary Wharf in London’s Docklands (East London), since May 2005. Previously was located on Lombard Street in London.
The bank was founded in 1690 in London. The name “Barclays” was associated with the entity from 1736, when James Barclay, son of one of the founders, became a business partner. In 1728, the bank was set at 54 Lombard Street, and identified from then the symbol of the black eagle with outstretched wings, which eventually became part of their identity.
